Quad County Corn Processors

In September of 2000, six individuals from northwest Iowa formed Quad County Corn Processors and signed an option to buy 102 acres of land south of Galva by Highway 20. The group started fundraising to build an 18-million-gallon ethanol plant. In just six weeks’ time, over 420 Iowa farmers invested in this value-added project. A formal ground-breaking ceremony was held in December of 2000 on site, and construction continued during 2001 and early 2002. On February 26, 2002, the first load of ethanol was transported out of the plant by truck.

Over the years, Quad County has added a number of improvements to the facility:

  • (2006-2011) Debottlenecked facility to produce 35 MGPY of ethanol
  • (2008-2013) Completed R & D on Cellerate™ process
  • (2011) Began producing distillers corn oil
  • (2012) Upgraded distillation system for energy efficiency
  • (2013) Opened rail car trans-load facility in Cherokee
  • (2013-2014) Constructed full-scale Cellerate™ facility
  • (2014) Began Cellerate™ full-scale facility. First commercial corn kernel fiber cellulosic ethanol in U.S. Doubled distiller corn oil yield per bushel of corn. Protein improved with less fiber and more protein.
  • (2014) Entered into Cellerate™ Collaboration Agreement with Syngenta to market the Cellerate™ process to other ethanol producers
  • (2017) QCCP executed an exclusive protein marketing agreement with Purina
  • (2017) QCCP opened its newly-remodeled administrative office in Galva

Today, Quad County employs 41 dedicated professionals who operate the facility 24 hours a day. At full capacity, Quad County grinds 35,000 bushels of corn per day, or 12.5 million bushels of corn a year. This production translates into 35 million gallons of ethanol a year. Quad County also produces 1.75 MGPY of distillers corn oil and 87,500 tons of high-protein feed for the livestock industry.
